How To Apply Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Estee Lauder is one of the best medium-full, long wearing foundations I've ever tried. It comes in a great range of shades too, currently (March 2020) there's over 60 shades! Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay in Place Makeup is matte but is easily made radiant or natural, read onto find out why this is still one of my most favourite foundations!

Is Estee Lauder Double Wear the best foundation?

It quite possibly is! It has consistently high reviews. It's apparently the no.1 selling foundation in the UK (according to research carried out on behalf of Estee Lauder– it looks like it's only high end sales though). It's also one of the best-selling foundations on Sephora, the best-selling foundation on John Lewis and Debenhams.

It's easy to see why it's such a popular foundation. Estee Lauder Double Wear has a great colour selection. Catering for very light skins right through to dark complexions.

It gives great coverage that's buildable to full or can be sheered out, for a lighter finish. I really like how easily Estee Lauder Double Wear (from now on ELDW) is easy to customise (more about that below).

ELDW is easily one of the longest wearing foundations. Not only is it super long-lasting but once it sets it doesn't budge or transfer. So you won't have this foundation rubbing off or smearing all over your phone (or whatever you put your head on, like your desk after a long day).

ELDW lasts all day through heat, humidity, sweat and even crying. I've been swimming when wearing this foundation and it stays in place (it's in the name!).

Does Estee Lauder Double Wear Cause Flashback?

Flashback is a big buzzword in foundation reviews. Lots of YouTubers always add it as part of their review framework. 'Flashback' is especially important if you're getting photos done, say for your wedding day or head shot. So does ELDW cause flashback? Yes, it does but probably not for the reasons you think of.

I found this article really useful for debunking myths surrounding foundation flashback in flash photography. Essentially ELDW can look bad in flash photography due to the high powder content. So flashback is not actually caused by the sun protection in it. But, guys, flash photography looks bad in general. (Do check out that article, it's really useful!)

How to Apply Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation?

ELDW applies best and easiest on skin that has been prepped well beforehand. I think it looks best with a primer that blurs pores, especially if you have larger visible pores (like me).

My favourite way to apply ELDW is with a makeup sponge. This Juno & Co makeup sponge is currently my favourite blending tool. It's much better than Real Techniques or Beauty Blender.

ELDW foundation has a lovely formula that blends nicely and is buildable. You do have to move fast when applying more layers though as it does set and dry down quickl

Once it's set it gives a matte finish but I don't find Estee Lauder Double Wear to be a flat matte. It also never feels heavy on the skin. In fact it's one of the most comfortable long wearing medium-full foundations I've tried.

Due to the high powder content it can look cakey or patchy on dry skin types. But that's not to say dry skin types shouldn't wear it. Katie Jane Hughes has wore it on her Instagram and it looked radiant, fresh and natural. I have some tips below to help you get a more natural, fresh look from ELDW.

How to Make Estee Lauder Double Wear Look Natural and Radiant

As I mentioned earlier ELDW is customisable and it never loses its staying power. So there's lots of ways to make Estee Lauder Double Wear look natural and radiant. I'll list some of them to give you some ideas:

• Apply over a hydrating radiant primer to enhance the finish.

• Apply with a wet beauty blender or one that's been sprayed with a water/hydrating setting spray.

• Apply after Glossier Futuredew to give a glowing finish. Glossier Futuredew has been one of my favourite products recently. If you have an oily t-zone it's probably best not to apply Futuredew there.

• Mix ELDW with a radiant liquid highlighter. I used to love Rouge Bunny Rouge Sea of Tranquillity for this but it's difficult to get hold of now. You could even mix it with Futuredew to get a glowing base.

• Apply with fingers as this will warm up the foundation to give a more natural finish. Then finish with a damp makeup sponge to give a flawless finish.

• Go easy with powder if you still need to set ELDW. This will make it look drier, especially if you use a HD finishing powder. That's not going to look great in photos, especially flash photography.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation Dupes

One of the best dupes I've found for Estee Lauder Double Wear is Primark My Perfect Colour Double Coverage Matte Foundation. This is a fraction of the price and a really brilliant foundation.

Another comparable foundation but might be slightly creamier is Rimmel Lasting Finish 25 hr with Comfort Serum. This is one of my favourite budget foundations.

L'Oréal Paris Makeup Infallible Pro-Matte Liquid Longwear Foundation. I also really like the newer L'Oreal Infallible 24h Fresh Wear foundation, I reviewed Fresh Wear here.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation is also a well-known dupe for ELDW. I haven't worn it in ages so I think I'll do a post to compare the two foundations.
